What To Expect || Knoxville Photography

Before your Knoxville photography session

Alisha Bacon Photography in Knoxville, Tennessee wants you to have the best experience, and receive the best quality portraits possible.

The first step is to pick the package that is right for you, and then contact us to discuss the dates and times that fit your schedule. Keep in mind that we focus on quality, not quantity, so each of your images will be the best of the best. Packages are all inclusive, so there is no worries about hidden fees.

Once your package is chosen, we can pick an a location in the greater Knoxville area. For newborns and babies, Alisha offers indoor studio sessions (outdoor are available as well), and for all other regular portrait sessions (family, maternity, children, engagement, headshots, and senior portraits) Alisha Bacon Photography offers on-location in the great outdoors. If you prefer an indoor setting, we will be happy to work on finding one available to us or photographing you in your own home for a lifestyle session within my travel radius of 35 miles of Knoxville.

In most situations, the biggest thing to consider is how many digital images you would like to receive with your package. However, there are important things you should consider before choosing a session length, such as if you have a small child, it may be better to choose a shorter session since little ones tend to lose interest quickly. On the other hand, if you have a large group, and want group as well as individual poses, you are going to need both more time and images.

Once we've hammered out the details of your portrait session and date and time has been agreed upon, you will need to pay a $50 non-refundable retainer to reserve your session. Don't worry though, that $50 goes towards your total session cost. For example, you reserve the Hummingbird, which is $150, you pay your $50 retainer, so $150 - $50 = $100 remaining balance due.

Please, look around the website to get an idea of some of the poses and styles you would like to do for your session. Please keep in mind that a lot of outdoor poses are not possible indoors, and some indoor poses are not possible outdoors. Feel free to look elsewhere on the internet (such as Pinterest) for other posing inspiration.

A couple of days before your session (typical about 48 hours) you will get a confirmation via e-mail for your session. Please do NOT ignore this e-mail, and respond as soon as possible to confirm that you will be at your session. If there is foul weather on the day of your session, it is especially important to check your e-mail and/or Facebook messages! Your session may have to be rescheduled if it is raining, snowing, the wind is above 14 MPH, or another weather condition that is not listed. Client re-schedules may incur additional fees.

after your portrait session

After your session, go home and relax! Alisha will use her professional judgement to select the best and most flattering images from your session to re-touch and deliver to you. Typical turn-around time is 10 to 14 days from the time of your session or final payment is received (whichever is last). At times, your images may be ready before that window. If you need your images sooner, there is a rush fee you may pay to receive your images in 2 business days (from final payment). The rush fee is subject to availability.

After the best images are hand-selected from your session, Photoshop is used to remove distracting elements, re-touch blemishes, and enhance the colors and sharpness of your image. This process polishes your portraits so they can be their best. The whole process takes between 4 and 6 hours per session. Raw and un-edited images are not and will not be given out, since the edits are part of the professional process.

All digital images are delivered through the PASS digital gallery, which allows you to view, share, and download your portraits. After you receive your images, you have the option to order high-quality, professional prints from a reputable printing company directly from the gallery. In addition to those features of PASS digital gallery, your images will also be stored for 10 years at no additional cost to you.

Session Tips:

Have fun

Try to relax and enjoy your session. One of the best parts of hiring a professional Knoxville photographer to photograph you is letting them do the work! The best images come from real smiles and having fun. Be loving, be genuine, and let your family shine. No one wants to look stiff and awkward in their portraits, so be sure and try and loosen up and enjoy yourselves. This should be a fun and enjoyable experience for both you and your family, so you can look back on your images with fondness and happy memories for years to come.

Candid moments make for some of the best images. Don't be afraid to act silly and make funny faces and silly noises to make your children (or some times your spouse) smile. You know your family best, so you know what to do to get everyone to smile.

What to wear

A good choice of clothing is a huge part of a successful session. For any kind of group portrait, be sure everyone's clothing is coordinated, but don't match exactly. Some great color choices are grey and blue, red and navy, gray and yellow, green and navy, or red and brown or tan. Try to avoid large patterns or prints, neon colors, and large logos.

Once you have chosen your outfits, lay them out together, make sure they are clean, wrinkle free, and you like them together. You can even take a quick picture and send it to Alisha's e-mail if you need a second opinion. Once you have done that, then put them out of the way, and keep them until you are ready to wear them on session day, it will save you a lot of stress. If anyone is planning on wearing high-heels, please have them bring comfortable shoes, as some times there is considerable walking in each session (plus Knoxville is full of hills!).
